It is most definitely all about me!
The first highlight of my day was meeting up with my girlfriend Nancy. I met Nancy working at the BNSF Railway. She’s a technical writer with an extremely dry sense of humor. I miss working with Nancy. We became like sisters. I’ve never had an older sister. I think it could Nancy… after all she is older. To me, Nancy is one of the cool senior citizens. I know when she reads this she’ll probably shoot me. Isn’t that what sisters do? I always knew Nancy older than me, but she is so totally lucky because I think she is aging much more gracefully than I and as such, she looks at least 5 years younger than she really is. But, enough about Nancy. Today is all about me!Back to my story…
So, the first highlight in my day was meeting up with Nancy at the Macaroni Grill for lunch. I love eating there. The one near the railroad is my favorite. Great staff, and consistently good food. As always, I had the build your pasta. I got the penne pasta with roasted garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, and caramelized onions with the spicy olive oil sauce. Well, it’s not really a sauce but that’s how it’s listed on th menu. And of course a glass of white zinfandel wine. After our meal our waitress Jessie delivered this heavenly chocolate cake with rich chocolate sauce over the top. Oh my gosh! It is so good! It could sort of be about Jessie’s dad… it’s his birthday, too! No… it is all about me! And Nancy proved it was all about me by picking up the tab. I so totally did not expect that. I really like Nancy. When her birthday rolls around, I’ll have to make it all about her so she’ll know what it feels like. Thank you, Nancy, for making this day special.
I need to back up briefly… my parents also made it all about me when they treated me to lunch earlier in the week. They, too, bought my lunch. I always like eating lunch with them. It’s not so much the parent-child relationship anymore. We’re becoming really good friends. It’s very cool. But this is not about them, this is about me!
The big highlight came in the evening when I met up with my ranch friends. I call them my my ranch friends because they all live on larger pieces of property, have Texas longhorn cattle, and of courses. So technically they could be horse friends, too. By large pieces of land I mean 20 up to 200 acres depending on which ranch
friend you are talking to. As for me, I have a very small 5.8 acres and no longhorns, even though Kate is willing to give me a dead one. But that’s a story for another day. We met at GoGo Gumbo-a delightful new Cajun restaurant that recently opened. Can you imagine my surprise when they showed up, with good wine and goodies to bestow on me? I was so floored. Really. I did not expect the great dinner gathering that I got. I really like my ranch friends. They’re like family to me. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for any of them, and I suspect there is nothing they wouldn’t do to help me. Well, they have helped me and helped lots. So that definitely makes this just that much more all about me! Me! Me! Me!
The best part of this day was the G65 gnome, aka Gnomey, joined me for each of these so very special and memorable gathering.
Happy birthday to me!
