It’s all About My Parents

Family No Comments »

My parents are pretty cool people. At this point in the game of life, we’re really good friends. Never saw that coming. I spent the day with them learning about living trusts. I’m their successor trustee. It can be a big job, and I get to do it. I learned lots about the process and I’m pretty convinced this is the way to go. Of course we all have to make our own decisions on that one. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s all About Hoot

Carriage Driving, Friends, Pharoah, Rainbow Bridge No Comments »

I mourned, and am still mourning, the loss of my very dear horsey non-human friend Pharoah, who crossed over the Rainbow Bridge earlier this year. Today he got a new friend to play with.

“Hoot,” whose real name I have no clue about, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge to meet up with his former barn-mates Denver, Ari, and Mr. Gardner, as well as my Pharoah. Pharoah went to visit Hoot on more than one occassion. I am glad Hoot has friends to run and play with now.

It’s been a pretty tough year for ponies. I won’t bore you with the details. You all know the stories.

I’ll make this a celebration post for our horsey non-human friends. Me and my horsey-girlfriends love our ponies. We have fun with them… we dress them up, we play games, we give them jobs. Best of all, we all love them dearly and losing one is like losing a family member or close friend. Here we remember the happier times. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s all About Rex Goliath

Foodie, wine No Comments »

About this Rex Goliath Free Range wine I picked up. Evidently there’s a story that goes with it. It’s something like this…

HRM Rex Goliath Giant 47 Pound Rooster

HRM Rex GoliathGiant 47 Pound Rooster

“It is said, that around the turn of the 20th century, traveling with a Texas Circus, there lived a rooster named HRM (His Royal Majesty) Rex Goliath. A proud star of the circus, Rex was billed as the ‘World’s Largest Rooster’ weighing in at a ‘goliath’ 47 pounds. Folks came from far and wide to behold the Giant, who proved to many he was no ordinary farm bird. Rex patiently sat at his circus roost, gazing fondly upon his many admirers who traveled – some from across the state – to see him. A colorful poster, carefully painted in his visage, hung proudly above his throne.”

It’s all About an Evening Out with Friends

Cooking, Foodie, Friends No Comments »

And what an evening it was!

We met at this new restaurant called GoGo Gumbo. It’s a hole in the wall run by this wonderful chef who left the big city and bright lights of a posh Houston private club and opened this much more laid back eatery. He serves more than gumbo. I had the ‘Sliceberg Salad’ with blackened chicken, Yum! While I would have enjoyed the spicy flavors promised a little more, I understand that when you are running such a place in rural wide-spot Texas, you have to be careful how you spice and cook things. I wasn’t going to say anything, but my friends told me I should. So I did. So the next time I eat there, all I have to do is let Chef Kraig know it’s me and he can kick the chicken up a notch (I love true blackened chicken… I get disappointed when it doesn’t live up to its name). My meal was not bad by any stretch of the imagination. In fact it really was pretty darn good. I just happen to like spicy food. I really went for the Jack Daniels Chocolate Mouse Pie… talk about good. This wonderfully light, fluffy mousse pie is serves over a drizzle of tart berry sauce and when the two meet in your mouth, it is really, really good. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s all About the Golden Kickball

My Day Job No Comments »

Had to work in the office today. No big deal. I have to go into the office on the first Wednesday of each month, and then on an as needed basis. Since I work a shortened week (only 32 hours), and with gasoline being so expensive, this seems to be working for the most part. I am so grateful that my employer is pro-remote employee. In fact, they expect all employees to work at least 2 days each from home. They have shared seating and flex seating. I have flex seating. That means when I go into the office, I have to fend for myself to get a work station. Most of the time this works out pretty well, and even though I got into the office before 9am today, there were no work stations open near my team. i ended up sitting on the opposite side of the building from them. And that was OK. I really liked the station I found. It was very open and I didn’t feel like I was swimming in a fish pond. I could even see out the windows. Pretty slick.
